I have a weakness for stationery stores--everything from so-called "fancy" pens and papers, to your Staples or Office Max. Just looking at all the pencils and pens gives me a high.
Tonight I took a secret pleasure in visiting the local Staples. Their pen selection is in the back, not unlike in a video store where they keep the dirty videos. I was surprised to see a woman already there, placing her hands all over the best wares. Then by the time I sauntered down to the best pens (the gel pens), a man had stepped-in, evidently, taking in all the variety. We both stood there, staring at all the pens... fine point, bold, thick, and even medium pen packs in counts of 10s and 20s. He decided to speak to me: "There are just so many pens! It's hard to find a really good one; I get stuck with a bad one and it just ruins my day."
I just smiled at him as I bit my lip. He knew the way it was, indeed.
Finally, I outlasted him. I felt he couldn't find what he was looking for. I walked off with one small injustice, a multicolor pack of more gel pens. These are thick. I hope they drip ink and make big fat lines. Next time, I'll visit another store of impropriety--something that has an even-more diverse collection of Japanese pens.
